The third Logan County Fair open class flower show Friday wrapped up the week’s “Tribute to Elvis” theme with several new artistic design classes, but also saw a repeat best of show winner for that category.

Bellefontaine resident Doris Hager swept the best of show and reserve artistic design awards during the competition. She also won a best of show ribbon Monday for her artistic piece.
Her most recent win was in the “Mama Liked the Roses” class, and it featured a tiered black container that was contrasted by bright orange roses.
“My husband and I worked together to make the container out of PVC piping,” she said. “I had seen the idea for the container in a book, and then came up with the arrangement of the flowers myself.”
Artistic design judge Naomi Ormes of Hamilton said the entry met the criteria that she uses when looking for an award-winning piece.
“When judging artistic design, we look for balance, rhythm and depth,” she said. “We also look for quality of the material used, and in this case, the roses look very good.”
