A rural Bellefontaine man evaded serious injury after his sport-utility vehicle rolled over top his leg and damaged neighboring property about 7:10 p.m. Friday.
Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report that James Collins, 43, of 4303 Holiday Lane was attempting to install a rear seat in his sport-utility vehicle when it reportedly came out of gear and rolled down his driveway and across the street.
The SUV then struck a mailbox at 4313 Holiday Lane, and a neighbor’s camper and the corner of a house at 4278 Holiday Lane before coming to rest.
When the vehicle rolled down the driveway, Mr. Collins reportedly tried to re-enter the driver’s door, which was locked, when he fell and the vehicle rolled over his leg.
Macochee Joint Ambulance District transported Mr. Collins to Mary Rutan Hospital with injuries to his leg, but he is expected to recover.
The neighboring camper, registered to James Schertzer of 4278 Holiday Lane was heavily damaged. According to reports, damage to the house was limited to bent spouting in the corner.
