Christy Black-Montoya of Mansfield returned to Logan County to judge Thursday’s 2014 Logan County Junior Fair Goat Show, on time this year after strong storms delayed her arrival and the start of last year’s show.

Obviously ready for the competition was Monica Slaven, 15, of DeGraff, who corralled three awards Thursday, including the grand and reserve champion pygmy goat trophies and another for first place in the senior showmanship contest. This was her first time showing pygmy goats.

Bryden Penhorwood, 14, of East Liberty, claimed second in the senior showman group. Tyler Slaven, 13, took first place in intermediate showmanship and Garrett Horsley was second. Lukas Schwieterman, 10, of Indian Lake, went home with first place in the junior showman division, followed in second place by Meghan Orr.

Levi Horsley, 15, of West Liberty, showed his first grand champion market goat, after taking reserve in the past, and Russell Hites, 18, of Belle Center, achieved a five-year best garnering reserve grand champion market goat honors.

Grace Barger, 16, of Bellefontaine, added to her collection of trophies, taking home the champion meat production doe banner, and Levi added one with the reserve meat doe.
