Riverside Little Dulcimers made their summer season debut Thursday during a regular meeting of the Bellefontaine Kiwanis Club.
Riverside’s Little Dulcimers include students in grades 4-6. Under the direction of Leanna George, herself a member of the Mad River Dulcimers, the group will perform at the Logan County Farmer’s Market and other community events this summer.
Kiwanians were first introduced to the group about 15 months ago.
Students learned how to play the dulcimer — a traditional wooden, folk instrument — on replicas of the instrument made of cardboard. The group also utilized a tab/number system, instead of traditional musical notes.
The program is sponsored at Riverside by Mary Rutan Hospital and PNC Bank and the group is free of charge to the students.
