WL-S BOE: Construction at-risk firm approved

WL-Salem Sign 217

West Liberty-Salem school board members on Tuesday in a regular meeting approved a construction firm that will be tasked with overseeing renovation of the K-12 facility, and discussed updated blueprints for the project.

Ruscilli Construction Company was designated by board resolution as the construction manager at-risk for the remodeling of the WL-Salem K-12 building.

The Columbus-based firm will be tasked with maintaining the project budget and hiring any necessary sub-contractors. Any contracts require board approval, and the construction manager at-risk is accountable to both the local school board and to the Ohio School Facilities Commission, which is paying for about two-thirds of the $33 million renovation.

Final blueprints are nearly set, Superintendent Kraig Hissong said, but are still subject to some modifications. According to conversation Tuesday, a designated public entrance will be established near the existing elementary school entrance. That entrance will be remodeled so that it’s displayed more prominently, and will be kept secure during regular school hours.

The existing high school entrance will be narrowed, and will not be intended for regular, public use, Mr. Hissong said.

Actual work on the renovation is scheduled to occur during next school year, and board members and administrators are considering a course of action when that time comes.

Work to renovate the school building may coincide with instruction, or additional modular units may be added and classes will be temporarily moved outside.
