Several transported after alcohol-related crashes

Travis L. May, 25, of 2466 County Road 103, Belle Center, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and was cited for driving under suspension, improper passing and no seat belt following an injury crash about 4:05 p.m. Sunday.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report Mr. May was operating a southbound pickup on U.S. Route 68 just north of State Route 273 when he attempted to pass a southbound car operated by Paula A. Payne, 55, of Kenton.

His pickup then struck the rear of Ms. Payne’s car, causing her vehicle to go sideways and partially into a ditch. The pickup then went off the right side of the road and struck a ditch.

Mr. May was transported by Rushcreek squad to Mary Rutan Hospital for non-incapacitating injuries. Ms. Payne was transported by BMRT squad to Hardin Memorial Hospital in Kenton, also for non-incapacitating injuries.

Damage was moderate to the pickup and light to the car.

• Timothy A. Wellbaum, 57, of 513 E. Chillicothe Ave., Apt. 6, Bellefontaine, was transported by Quincy squad to Mary Rutan Hospital for non-incapacitating injuries following a crash about 3:15 p.m. Sunday.

Deputies report he was operating an eastbound pickup on County Road 70 just east of County Road 4 near Quincy when he drove off the left side of the road, then back onto the road, and off the left side again, overturned and landed on its top.

Mr. Wellbaum reportedly was unable to get out of the vehicle until assisted by fire and EMS responders.

He was charged with OVI and failure to control. Damage to the pickup was heavy.
