WAPAKONETA — Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon released details today concerning the Friday arrest of a fugitive from Michigan.
Robert James Beck, 37, of Norwalk and Monroe, Mich., was lodged in the Auglaize County Jail, where he is being held pending extradition to Michigan.
Friday, the sheriff’s office was notified by the U.S. Marshal’s Office in Toledo that the fugitive might be staying in the St. Marys area. He was wanted for parental kidnapping in Michigan for the illegal removal of his 1-year-old child. It was believed that the suspect still had the child with him.
Detectives from the sheriff’s office and the St. Marys Police Department searched the area for the suspect’s vehicle and detectives located it at a campground near St. Marys.
The defendant was located there and was arrested without incident by deputies and officers from the St. Marys Police Department.
The child also was located unharmed at the campground and was temporarily turned over to the Auglaize County Department of Job and Family Services, and then was turned over to another social service agency that had a protective custody order for the child.
