James V. McCoy, 52, of 11350 Powhatan Path, Lakeview, was charged with three counts of theft Wednesday related to an alleged theft from the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 3615 at Indian Lake.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the Eagles Lodge, 14011 Collingwood Ave., Islandview, Lakeview, about 2:30 p.m. in reference to the theft.
Leaders at the lodge explained that Mr. McCoy, who is an employee of the organization, had been in charge of taking aluminum cans to a scrap yard in Bellefontaine and then returning the cash received for the cans to the lodge.
However, when the defendant recently cashed in some aluminum cans to the scrap yard, he never returned the cash to the organization.
Deputies responded to Mr. McCoy’s residence, and found that he also had an active warrant out of Bellefontaine Municipal Court. When questioned about the incident, the defendant said he had used the cash to purchase items for the Eagles Lodge.
He was transported to the Logan County Jail.
Traffic stop results in several charges
Deputies issued summonses to two individuals following a traffic stop about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Boulevard and U.S. Route 33 in Russells Point.
An odor of marijuana was observed coming from the vehicle, and a small amount of marijuana was found, along with drug paraphernalia and an open container of alcohol.
The driver, Thomas Cotterman, 39, of 4000 Alpine Parkway, Lot J1, Zanesfield, and his passenger, Rayann L. Cooper, 37, of 161 Burkhart Ave., Russells Point, each was issued summonses for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The driver also was cited for driving under suspension, and the passenger received a summons for having an open container in a motor vehicle.
Hit/skip crash reported
James E. Davie, 19, of Bellefontaine, reportedly was operating a westbound car on U.S. Route 33 near County Road 28 about 11:35 p.m. Wednesday when he struck an animal in the roadway, and then his vehicle was struck by a westbound vehicle that left the scene.
He did not report any injuries. His car sustained heavy damage and was towed from the scene.
