So when fellow trustee Peter Stolly contacted him Tuesday and told him he needed to get to the trustee building early before the regularly scheduled meeting to handle a pressing matter, he got there as soon as he could.
“Boy, was I surprised,” Mr. Scott said Tuesday after he arrived to the township building and found his family and many of his peers had planned for him a surprise party to recognize his last meeting after 28 years as a trustee in Lake Township.
“I do have mixed emotions,” Mr. Scott said. “It was a lot of work going out at night and dealing with snow and downed tree limbs — of course there was the ice storm years back — I won’t miss that.
“What I will miss, though, is stuff like this and coming here twice a month being together with the other trustees.”
