Community Markets stores throughout Central Ohio will donate 8,000 pounds of poultry to several local food pantries as part of its annual Christmas giving campaign.
The Community Markets stores in Logan County, combined with other Community Markets locations throughout Ohio, will be a part of the poultry donation.
Thursday, donations start at the Lakeview store, 8793 Township Road 239, in the Midway Plaza, to benefit United Christian Services. Then at noon, donations to Our Daily Bread and From Hearts to Hands food pantries will take place at the Community Markets store at 878 E. Sandusky Ave., Bellefontaine.
The poultry will then be transported to the local food pantries for distribution throughout the month.
“There is a need all yearlong for donations like this, but we are fortunate to have excellent vendor partners that allow us to make these types of gifts at a time when some families need it most,” said Ed Green, Community Markets director of meat operations, referring to the company’s partnership Miller Poultry of Orland, Indiana.
Miller Poultry has been partnering with Community Markets for the past five years, allowing the stores to allocate the food donations to the towns they serve.
Headquartered in Findlay, Fresh Encounter Inc., is Ohio’s largest independently owned supermarket chain. Fresh Encounter operates under the banners of Great Scot, Community Markets and Sack & Save.
