Although the bells had already rung signaling the end of the school day Monday, upbeat pop music was playing and students’ paintbrushes were busy dipping into colorful pots of paint in Jennifer Davis’ art room at Benjamin Logan Middle School.

Members of the school’s Art Club meet regularly after school to work on various projects that oftentimes benefit their community, and Monday’s activity was no exception.
Pupils were painting geometric designs onto gourds that will be made into birdhouses and then will be installed at the front entryway to the school building this spring.
“I like that we get to do this the way we want with our own imagination,” seventh-grader Zach Myers said.
