Columbus students tour 3 rural Logan County businesses
Middle school students from the Mifflin Middle School in the Columbus City School District took a field trip Thursday to R&K and Knief farms near Lewistown and Shroyer Farm near DeGraff. Alexis Croom had never before seen a field of corn, a 1,000 pound steer or even a sprawling pasture.
An annual field trip organized by a Logan County native who now teaches in the Columbus City Schools system changed all that.
“I’ve never really thought about where the food comes from,” said Alexis, an eighth-grade student in Columbus City Schools. “I always knew it came up out of the ground, or whatever, but I’ve never seen it actually happen.”
