Officers of the West Liberty Police Department report that 10 juveniles from the Adriel campus have been taken into custody this week following several incidents that occurred over a two-day period.

In the first incident early Tuesday morning, officers responded to a report that a 17-year-old boy, Robert O’Dell, and a 15-year-old girl, Mona Goodson, had walked away from the campus.

Officers attempted to locate the juveniles, but were unsuccessful. Both teens were entered into LEADS/NCIC as missing persons, and information was sent to surrounding areas regarding the pair.

At approximately 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, officers received information that the two missing juveniles were suspects in a theft from a Speedway gas station in Urbana, and that the teens were spotted walking in the eastern part of Champaign County.

A Champaign County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a suspicious persons call in that area, and located the juveniles in question. According to reports, the deputy was assaulted while attempting to take Robert into custody and sustained minor injuries.

Robert was transported to Mercy Memorial Hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. He was later transferred to the Five-County Joint Juvenile Detention District in Marysville, where several charges are pending against him.

Mona was released to West Liberty officers and was transported to the Logan County JDC. She was charged with persistent disorderly conduct, and other charges are pending from the Urbana Police Department.

About 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, West Liberty officers and deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to Adriel for a report of a fight between several juveniles and staff members.

Upon the officers’ arrival, one juvenile had fled the area on foot and could not be located. Another youth had activated the fire alarm system in the building.

As a result of the fight, the following juveniles were taken into custody and transported to the JDC: Demetre Dallas, 15; Mason Weatherly, 14; and a 13-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy.

Several other departments which provided assistance included the Ohio State Highway Patrol, DeGraff Police Department, and the Washington Township Police Department.

Macochee EMS also was requested at the scene because of the report of possible injuries, but no transport was made from the facility.

Also Tuesday evening, officers returned to campus about 11 p.m. for the report of three girls and a boy who ran away from the facility. Officers and deputies searched the village and surrounding areas and the juveniles could not be located

The following morning about 11:30 a.m., two of the runaway youths were spotted in the area of south Main Street in Bellefontaine. Those juveniles were taken into custody without incident and transported to JDC.

While on scene at south Main Street, information was received that the remaining two juveniles were spotted on a railcar on the railroad tracks behind Fountain Plaza in Bellefontaine. The pair also were transported to JDC.

The four individuals arrested as a result of this incident were Aschistian Brown and Makelia Madison, both 15; Bonnie Barnes, 14; and an 11-year-old girl.

Logan County Sheriff’s deputies and Bellefontaine Police Department officers assisted in apprehending the juveniles.
