SIDNEY — Two girls were hospitalized when their all-terrain vehicle was struck by a car Monday.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said a 10-year-old girl was operating the ATV off the west side of the street in the 1600 block of Miami Conservancy Road with her 5-year-old sister riding as a passenger. The ATV went into the southbound lane and was struck by a vehicle driven by Sandra Karnehm, 65, of Piqua. Both girls were ejected upon the impact.
Karnehm was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The 10-year-old was flown to Children's Medical Center in Dayton. The 5-year-old was taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital.
The Sheriff’s Office said the girls were not wearing helmets or safety clothing.
