Chamber set to honor five during annual meeting

Five outstanding citizens/businesses are to be recognized for their work and continued support of Logan County at the 73rd Logan County Area Chamber of Commerce annual meeting, now called Stars in Business Night of Recognition, set for Oct. 17 at the Huntsville Event Center, beginning with a social hour at 5:30 p.m.

The United Way, winner of the Non-Profit Organization of the Year award, opened on Nov. 4, 1955, in Logan County, and hosted its first annual meeting the following spring, in celebration of raising $3,000. This year’s campaign goal is $700,000.

Jim Donnelly, the executive director, has announced his retirement at the end of the year. Heidi Reser recently was announced as his replacement. A volunteer board of trustees with 20 members led by 2013 President Mike Mullins oversees the activities of the organization. The 2013 campaign chairperson is Tara Wagner.

The annual United Way of Logan County campaign is the largest fundraiser in the county, and has generated $8 million during the past 10 years. One in every three residents of the county is somehow touched by the annual support and contributions from local businesses and residents.  

Mary Rutan Hospital, the Integrity in Business award winner, has been in Logan County for 95 years, and throughout this history has maintained a strong commitment to improve the health, well-being and quality of life of the people entrusted in their care.
