Fans of the Bellefontaine Parks and its programs soon may have an easy way to show their support.
Tuesday, the Joint Recreation Board of Trustees voted to move ahead with a foundation that could take monetary donations and set the funds aside for park projects and programs.
Parks Superintendent Kris Myers said the board is just beginning the process and the initial focus is who will sit on the foundation board.
It could be just the park board members or it could be made up of people outside the park board, with or without park board representation.
Mr. Myers said he hopes composition of the foundation board is decided within a few months and then the parks can incorporate the foundation and then establish its 501(c)(3) status with the Internal Revenue Service.
“People can reap the same tax deduction benefits now if they give money for the parks,” Mr. Myers said, “but a foundation helps give them assurances the money will be used only for the parks. It takes politics out of the process.”
