Matthew R. Thornburg, 33, of 106 1/2 N. Detroit St., West Liberty, was charged with domestic violence following an incident early Wednesday morning.
Officers of the West Liberty Police Department responded to his address for the report of a disturbance.
When officers arrived, they heard a loud verbal argument coming from inside the residence. Officers made contact with Mr. Thornburg and Valerie Richmond, and found that both had been drinking throughout the day.
Officers learned that a verbal and physical altercation occurred when Ms. Richmond tried to wake Mr. Thornburg to eat dinner. Ms. Richmond reportedly had a black eye and a bruise on her forehead.
Mr. Thornburg claimed that Ms. Richmond struck him in the knee with a wooden table leg, however officers found no evidence of that while at the residence.
Mr. Thornburg was taken into custody, and then immediately began complaining of knee pain that prohibited him from walking.
Macochee EMS responded, and upon their arrival, the defendant became combative. Once he was restrained, he was taken to Mary Rutan Hospital, and then later to the Logan County Jail.
