Indian Lake superintendent talks school safety, funding

Indian Lake Schools Superintendent Pat O’Donnell highlighted his district’s recent academic success, discussed improvements to school building safety and asked Bellefontaine Kiwanians for their support of an upcoming school levy Thursday at a weekly meeting.

Mr. O’Donnell reminded the Kiwanis Club that Indian Lake earned an excellent with distinction rating from the Ohio Department of Education in 2012-13. There are 1,800 students in the district, with 200 staff members. Twenty-three buses cover 126 square miles, twice a day, Mr. O’Donnell said.

The superintendent said more than ever the school district is working in tandem with local law enforcement and first responders for training in any situation that may arise.

Additional cameras have been placed in and around campus and all doors remain locked during the day, Mr. O’Donnell said.
