Saturday’s parade a reunion for grand marshals, family

For the guests of honor in this year’s Labor Day parade, the occasion doubles as a family reunion.

John and Joy Plank of West Liberty are grand marshals for Saturday’s parade, recognition they admittedly could do without, but for the fact the distinction gave their three sons, two of whom now live out of state, reason to come home for the weekend.

For the twins, Darry and Dennis — who’s coming into town from Tennessee — Saturday is their 61st birthday, Mrs. Plank said, adding the couple’s other son, Doug, will be traveling from South Carolina. Darry lives nearby.

“I’m more excited for the boys coming home than I am to be grand marshal,” Mr. Plank said. “We haven’t had everyone together in years.”
