Anna Police Chief receives unpaid administrative leave

ANNA PolicePatch

ANNA — Anna Police Chief Scott Evans received 60 days of unpaid administrative leave Tuesday night by action of the village’s council.

Council members voted 5-1 during a public hearing to take the latest disciplinary action against Chief Evans, according to published reports.

Mayor Robert Anderson sent Evans a letter prior to the hearing citing various administrative charges against the chief, including malfeasance, dishonesty and incompetence. Village officials also question whether Evans meets residency requirements for the position.

He was placed on a 10-day paid leave earlier this month while village officials sought legal advice and conducted an investigation.

The council is considering disbanding the village’s police department and entering into a contract with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, but took no action on the matter at the hearing.
