Officers of the West Liberty Police Department responded to the West Liberty Church of Christ, 213 W. Newell St., about 7 p.m. Tuesday on a report that a vehicle had struck the church.

Phyllis Ackley, 79, of West Liberty, reportedly was attempting to park in the parking lot of the church when she stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake. Her car then traveled over the curb and struck the east side of the building.

Bellefontaine EMS responded, and Ms. Ackley was treated at the scene. The West Liberty Fire Department also responded and assisted.

The building sustained minor damage to both the interior and exterior of the structure. Ms. Ackley’s vehicle was towed from the scene.

There were no citations issued.

• Jerry Davis, 77, of Rocky Mount, N.C., was cited for a stop light violation following a two-vehicle crash about 10:20 a.m. Tuesday at Detroit and Baird streets in West Liberty.

Officers report Mr. Davis was operating a northbound car on Detroit Street when he failed to stop for a red light. His vehicle then was struck by a westbound pickup operated by Terry Hoylman, 63, of rural West Liberty.

Both vehicles sustained moderate damage, and were driven from the scene.

The drivers refused treatment at the scene by Macohee EMS. The West Liberty Fire Department also responded and assisted at the scene.
