Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report that both drivers in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning each received citations after the incident on State Route 366 near Artist Island.
Michael A. Steineman, 28, of Huntsville, reportedly was operating a westbound car about 5:40 a.m. when he said another vehicle came up closely behind him, so he slammed on his brakes several times. The other vehicle, operated by Ashton E. Blackford, 19, of Kenton, then struck the rear of his vehicle.
Ms. Blackford said when she came up quickly on Mr. Steineman’s vehicle, she realized that she was traveling too fast, and attempted to slow down. She reported that when the other driver slammed on his brakes, it sounded like he locked up his brakes.
Mr. Steineman did not report any injuries, and Ms. Blackford reported possible injuries, but was not transported. The Steineman vehicle sustained moderate damage, while the second vehicle sustained heavy damage.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
Ms. Blackford was issued a citation for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead, while Mr. Steineman was cited for stopping in the roadway.
