Dodds first recipient of first founder’s award

Pat Dodds was an insurance salesman in 1979 when he heard about John P. Walsh’s start-up financial planning services business.

He was intrigued by Mr. Walsh’s vision and joined Money Concepts International, which grew into more than 700 independently owned and operated financial planning centers based on a franchise model.

Over the next 37 years, the two men grew close.

“He became like a father to me,” Mr. Dodds said. “He really cared about people and wanted to do the right thing for them.”

Mr. Dodds earned several chairman’s awards for the integrity of his business operation.

But this year’s honor was meaningful — it was the first John P. Walsh Award and Mr. Dodds was its first recipient.

Mr. Walsh passed away last September following a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was 84.

The local Money Concepts International has five licensed financial planners including Mr. Dodds and six support staff located on the second floor of 145 S. Main St.
