Visitors bleachers to be removed

Visitors bleachers to be removedWest Liberty-Salem school board approved an agreement Tuesday at a regular meeting to have structurally unsound bleachers removed from school property.

The school will pay Miami Valley Disaster Solutions Inc. $1,950 to remove the failing bleacher structure on the visitors side of the football field.

The project is estimated to take three days. It will include removal of all bleachers including seating boards, railings, steps and supports. All concrete support piers will be removed with a backhoe from their current location and taken to another area on school property to be determined by administrators.

The district has been in talks with the Logan County Fair Board about possibly renting portable bleachers for at least the upcoming football season that would seat up to 300 people.

Recently retired Mike Freese was approved as a part-time job share partner with Kim Hollar for elementary physical education. Mr. Freese will not be eligible for benefits, nor will he accrue seniority or be eligible for severance.

Resignations from Darla Moore, seventh-grade language arts, for the purpose of retirement and from Tara Weisgerber, fourth-grade teacher, for relocation to another state.

School board members granted Superintendent Kraig Hissong authority to offer contracts to fill those positions because of the need to fill the vacancies before school starts.

Alyssa Ratterman was hired as an elementary reading teacher and seventh-grade volleyball coach.

In other action, the board approved/accepted:

• substitute bus aides/drivers Mark Dowden, Wes Krabill, Jacob Vitt, Jeff Harr, Julie McIntosh, Margaret Kite and Karen Speert;

• Rebecca Meade, full-time bus driver;

• school fees for the 2013-14 school year; and

• an Adriel school service agreement with Logan County Educational Service Center and Adriel School for the education of WL-Salem students at Adriel School.
