Two arrested with needles

CORRECTION: David Gammell, 212 Ludlow Road, said Brandon Russell does not live there as provided by police records in Monday’s police activity reports.

Brandon J. Russell, 30, of 212 Ludlow Road, was hospitalized Saturday when he admitted to swallowing black tar heroin and using the drug.

He was a passenger in a station wagon that was stopped in the 300 block of east Lake Avenue.

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department knew he was wanted on multiple warrants including a felony theft charge out of Champaign County.

He was taken into custody at gun point after he tried to exit the vehicle. He soon began complaining he felt ill while in a police cruiser.

He was taken to Mary Rutan Hospital after he vomited a brown substance.

Hypodermic needles and a spoon with burnt residue was found on the ground outside the vehicle door where the suspect was seated

After treatment, he was lodged in the Logan County Jail.

• Wendall G. Estep, 51, of 7063 Clark Drive, Russells Point, was charged Saturday with possession of a drug abuse instrument during a 9:50 a.m. traffic stop in an alley west of the 300 block of south Main Street.

An officer observed him drop a hypodermic needle while his sport utility vehicle was searched for drugs after an alert from a canine sweep of the vehicle.
