UPDATE: Police identify traffic fatality victim

A wheelchair bound man was struck by a sport utility vehicle and died around 9:35 p.m. Tuesday as he traveled in a westbound lane of Sandusky Avenue near St. Paris Street.

Bryce Walker, 55, of Heartland of Bellefontaine, 221 N. School St., was pronounced dead at the scene by the Logan County Coroner's Office, officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report.

 Witnesses told police Mr. Walker, who was reportedly wearing dark-colored clothing, was making his way westbound in the roadway despite the availability of sidewalks in the area.

 There was no defined crossing area in the vicinity of the collision.

 Michael Stachler, 34, of Bellefontaine, is the driver of the SUV and he has not been cited for any driving violations. 

Officers also do not suspect Mr. Stachler was under the influence of alcohol and /or drugs.

However, they are awaiting toxicology reports on Mr. Walker before concluding their investigation.
