Award recipients this year are Dr. Richard W. and Mary Elizabeth Stang, Dr. Janis E. Byrd, Stephen R. Buchenroth and the late Edward D. Jones Sr.

The award honors “alumni whose actions and achievements, whether in their professional life or human service to community bring honor and distinction to the academic heritage of Bellefontaine High School.” Criteria for nomination include at least 10 years since graduation from the school and a demonstration of “significant success in the professional arena or significant contribution in service to community, state or nation.”

Coordinated by the Academic Boosters Club, the selection process began in the fall with acceptance of nominations and the submission of completed applications. A committee of administrators, teachers, students and community members were involved in the final selection.

Dr. Stang, who graduated from BHS in 1945, practiced optometry in Bellefontaine for 49 years. He holds an optometry degree from The Ohio State University and is a member of the American and Ohio State Optometric Associations and is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
