Motorist faces 10 charges

Lawrence L. Presley, 54, of 589 N. Township Road 129, Zanesfield, was arrested Wednesday for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and was cited for a stop sign violation, failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead, failure to control and three counts each of leaving the scene of a crash and driving under suspension after a series of crashes around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report he was driving a car registered to Zelma L. McCann, also of 589 N. T.R. 129, and he drove southbound ignoring a stop sign at Detroit Street and Carter Avenue. The car struck a westbound car operated by Riemke Melzer of Bellefontaine and spun it around.

A license plate to the car was found at the crash site.

Witnesses reported he drove to 500 Gunntown Road and he was located inside apartment E12.

He also was involved in crashes at Detroit and Water Avenue where he rear ended a vehicle operated by Robert Grimes of Bellefontaine and Detroit and Clarkson Avenue where he ran into a guy wire.

Officer noted the motorist was visibly intoxicated and he admitted to driving the car and consuming beer.

He was physically unable to complete sobriety field tests nor could he participate in breathe test. However, he submitted a urine sample for testing.

He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
