MEDWAY — A male youth was seriously injured Monday night after being struck by a vehicle along Kennedy Drive in Medway.

Troopers of the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol report Ricky H. Johnson, 51, of Medway, was driving a westbound van on Kennedy Drive about 8:22 p.m. when it went off the right side of the road. The van then struck and dragged a boy and a bicycle on the road before stopping.

The driver fled the scene and was later apprehended by Clark County Sheriff's deputies.

The injured boy was transported by Bethel Township Fire and EMS to Dayton Children's Hospital where he is reportedly listed in stable condition.

He was sitting with a group of children in a grassy area off the north side of Kennedy Drive prior to the incident.

Alcohol is a factor in the crash, troopers said.

Witnesses provided authorities with a description of Johnson's vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation.

Medway is about 14 miles west of Springfield.
