UPDATE: 3 transported after crash


Emergency personnel tend to occupants in a 2 p.m. crash Tuesday at U.S. Route 68 and County Road 57 that resulted in three people being transported to Mary Rutan Hospital. Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report Carol Delong, 72, of Belle Center, was operating a northbound pickup that struck the rear of a northbound sport utility vehicle driven by Margaret Gammell, 61, of Belle Center, that had stopped to make a left turn. Ms. Gammell and her passenger, Michael Gammell, 63, each were transported by a Bellefontaine squad for incapacitating injuries. Ms. Delong did not report any injuries, but her passenger, Clyde Delong, 78, of Belle Center was transported by BMRT squad for possible injuries. Huntsville squad also responded to the scene. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage. Traffic on U.S. 68 was blocked by the crash. No citations have yet been issued, and the investigation continues. EXAMINER PHOTO | JOEL E. MAST
