Joseph P. Neil, 21, of 12660 County Road 153, East Liberty, was charged with felony theft of a motor vehicle Wednesday.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to his address Tuesday to speak with his stepfather, Dan Wininger. He reported that his stepson had taken a 1988 Mercury Cougar that belongs to Mr. Wininger’s son, Joseph A. Wininger.
Mr. Neil said he would return the vehicle the next day.
However, when deputies responded to the residence Wednesday, the vehicle was not at the property. The defendant said he had towed the vehicle to a residence in Raymond, where he was going to sell it for scrap metal.
The younger Wininger advised that he wanted to press charges because he had not given Mr. Neil permission to sell the car or to take it anywhere.
Mr. Neil was transported to the Logan County Jail.
