Robert A. Wintersteller, 44, of 11307 County Road 97, Belle Center, enter not guilty pleas to 17 charges Thursday before Logan County Common Pleas Judge Mark S. O'Connor.
He faces felony charges of four counts of first-degree felony rape; four counts of third-degree felony sexual battery; four counts of third-degree felony gross sexual imposition; two counts of counts of fourth-degree felony gross sexual imposition; and one count of fifth-degree felony importuning.
He also was charged with single misdemeanor counts of intimidating a victim or witness and domestic violence.
The allegations in the case first came to light in December. Two female relatives told Logan County Sheriff’s detectives they were molested by the suspect over a period of several years.
The oldest allegation dates back to 1992.
The Ohio Attorney General’s Office Special Prosecution Unit is handling the case.
Bond was set at $250,000, and by 4:43 p.m., the defendant had posted bond and was released.
“This man sexually assaulted these victims repeatedly over a period of two decades, and we fear that they are not the only ones,” said Attorney General Mike DeWine. “There could be other victims who are now adults, and we urge anyone with additional information to come forward so that we can prosecute this suspect to the fullest extent.”
He was previously charged with five counts of gross sexual imposition, but the case fell apart after the female victim recanted some of the allegations and her mother refused to cooperate with the prosecution.
He reached a plea agreement in 2009 to avoid a sex conviction in that case.
