Huntsville considers semi parking ban

The Huntsville Village Council addressed concerns for the condition of Lions Park Drive that runs along the park that has degraded in part by semi-tractor trailers using the “pit” for overnight parking.

Discussion during Tuesday’s regular council meeting included talk of banning semi traffic. Mayor William Jenkins wants to implement the ban May 1. Clerk/Treasurer Susan Yelton shared the new hours for the Huntsville Post Office that take affect May 18, with the window hours from noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. The lobby will be open 24 hours for access to the mailboxes. Mail will be available for pickup by 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Mayor Jenkins told council he was questioned about opening up a gun shop within the village limits and said there are no zoning laws against it.

Fire Chief Tim Jenkins said the fire department received a $10,000 grant from the State Fire Marshal’s Office that will be used for a Class A Foam System for Engine 51.
