Loud booms addressed at council meeting

Resident Ralph Furhman raised concerns during a regular Russells Point Village Council meeting Monday over loud late-night explosions heard around the village over recent months.

The unexplained explosions have rattled windows of nearby residences and tend to emanate from the southwest section of the village.

Chief Joe Freyhof said the police department is investigating and would like anyone with any information to contact them at 843-2245.

After attending a recent Indian Lake EMS Ambulance District board meeting, Councilwoman Joan Maxwell said the district has purchased a lot near the present squad house on Stephenson Street in Lakeview and formed a building committee in connection with a new facility.

Logan County Farmers’ Market representative Chloe Manor shared information about operating a farmers’ market, a venture the village is looking into for next year. Village officials are looking for a volunteer to take charge of the project. Call the village to express interest.

The village received a proposal from Clemans, Nelson & Associates and Downes Fishel in response to the village’s inquiry for services concerning the design of a personnel handbook/manual and job descriptions for the village. A representative is scheduled to present to the council at the next meeting at 7 p.m. April 15.

Pedestrians are urged to use extreme caution when crossing U.S. Route 33 at State Route 708 as officials continue to seek repair assistance from the manufacturer of a crosswalk lighting system that has malfunctioned.

Parks and Recreation Board committee reported they have a tentative list of items and services needed for the revival of the Leppich Field. The board meets at 6 p.m. April 15.
