Bellefontaine Police Officer Glenn Newland and personnel with the Bellefontaine Fire Department talk with Geneva Helms, 31 of 106 Walnut St., Rushsylvania, after a two-vehicle crash around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday. She was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and cited for not using a safety belt, having an expired operator’s licence and failure to yield. The other driver, Robert L. Smith, 62, of West Mansfield, was transported by a Bellefontaine squad to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Ms. Helms was eastbound on State Route 47 and attempted to turn northbound onto County Road 9. Her sport utility vehicle hit head on with a westbound pickup truck which ended up off the road. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage. Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the crash.
