The West Liberty-Salem FFA poultry team won the recent Mercer County Invitational, posting a team score of 1,612.95, beating rival Versailles which scored 1,560.97 points for second place.
The win marked the third week in a row that the team captured top poultry honors at competitions. Members will advance to the state semi-finals April 6 at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, where more than 50 teams and 200 individuals are expected to compete.
Team members include Catherine Williams, Jordon Wolfe, Sarah Williams, Keri White, Bethany Maytas and Victoria Benefiel.
Individually, West Liberty-Salem placed five FFA members in the top 10 and six in the top 16 of the Mercer County competition, which included participants from 18 different teams.
Individual placings included Catherine Williams second place with 538.33 points, Jordon Wolfe third with a score of 538.02, and third place Sarah Williams with 536.60 points.
Other top individuals included Keri White with 523.39 points for sixth place, Bethany Maytas placing tenth with a score of 504, and Victoria Benefiel posting 480.58 points for 16th place.
The team is coached by Larry Lokai.
