The Columbus-based cycling group Team SixOneFour announces that the Zanesfield Road Race returns to the area Sunday, with a course covering areas between Zanesfield and East Liberty.
Approximately 200 to 300 cyclists will complete laps on the 15-mile course beginning at 9 a.m. starting from 2568 Sandusky St., Zanesfield. All racers will finish at the top of the hill on County Road 10 in front of the Kirkmont Center driveway.
A similar route was used for the Olympic trials in 1980, when world renowned bicyclist Greg LeMond participated.
Last year, the event attracted cyclists from four different states.
Race registration information is available at www.bikereg.com/Net/18462. A video highlighting the course can be viewed at http://youtu.be/woy0LtGE8Vk.
Local law enforcement and emergency personnel will be present at the event to keep it safe for all involved, organizers said.
Team SixOneFour also has invited area groups or businesses to sell various types of food and beverages during the race.
“We want our event to highlight the county and local businesses as much as possible,” Team SixOneFour President Mark Farmer said.
