An 8-year-old boy died Thursday morning after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in West Liberty.
Officers of the West Liberty Police Department responded to a report of a pedestrian struck in the 300 block of north Detroit Street about 10 a.m.
Colton Furrow of West Liberty was crossing the street with his 12-year-old brother when he was struck by a southbound pickup truck operated by Gene Rainsburg, 52, of Kenton.
The boy was transported by Macochee Joint Ambulance District squad to Mary Rutan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses state they observed the boys trying to cross the street in an area north of the intersection of east Newell Street, and were not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash. They also report traffic was heavy prior to the crash.
The crash remains under investigation, however it has been determined that no criminal charges will be filed.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office and the West Liberty Fire Department assisted at the scene.
This is the second fatal crash in Logan County this year.
