Problem originated on pole at HBD
An equipment malfunction Monday evening on a pole near HBD Industries caused a power surge that affected numerous electric customers throughout Logan County.
Firefighters of the Bellefontaine Fire Department responded to the 1301 W. Sandusky Ave. business at 5:12 p.m. where they located an arcing wire and contacted Dayton Power & Light. The ensuing surge of electricity caused brief power outages throughout the county, but no widespread outages were reported.
Power was out throughout the evening at HBD and neighboring AGC Automotive, which sent its second shift work crew home for the evening.
Firefighters also responded to the AcuSport Corporation, 1 Hunter Place, shortly afterwards for a fire alarm that was triggered by the power surge.
