Two men were arrested after a brief vehicle pursuit around 10:15 p.m. Thursday on Plumvalley Street, officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report.
Andrew S. Herford, 19, of 316 Eaton St., was charged with fleeing and eluding and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, no operator’s license and was cited for failure to control and failure to stop after a crash. Steven M. Cottingham, 23, of 500 Gunntown Road, Apt. B7, was charged with public intoxication and cited for wrongful entrustment.
The chase came to an end at 305 Plumvalley St. after the driver sped away from officers.
He then exited the sport utility vehicle and ran off. The SUV continued to roll forward until it hit a street sign.
With the help of deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, the driver was located in the 800 block of Harding Street. He was covered in mud, briars, thorns and leaves, police report. He also was out of breath, sweating and reeked of alcohol.
He was uncooperative with Logan County Jail staff and refused to take sobriety tests.
Mr. Cottingham, who was found passed out in the passenger seat, also was lodged in jail. He told officers Mr. Herford was driving the vehicle, which is registered to Mr. Cottingham’s father.
• Gary Doseck, 47, at large, was served Thursday with a warrant for theft.
