Russells Point residents near the intersection of Mansfield Street and Burkhart Avenue called 911 at about 6:45 p.m. Friday to report a possible injury crash in which the driver fled the scene.
Officers of the Russells Point Police Department arrived to find a vehicle registered to Craig E. Carlson, 41, of 124 Chase Ave., entangled in a fence and utility pole guide wire, but no driver.
A short time later, Mr. Carlson was found highly intoxicated at his nearby home, where he insisted he’d just had his first drink. He refused sobriety tests and was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to control.
The suspect was lodged in the Logan County Jail. Washington Township Police Department assisted at the scene.
This is the first alcohol-related crash in Russells Point this year.
