Charges pending against driver
WALNUT HILLS — Cincinnati police have identified the driver who they say struck a Bellefontaine man on northbound Interstate 71 near the William Howard Taft Road exit and fled over the weekend.
Criminal charges are pending against Lauren Balint, 21.
Police say Christopher Walker, 21, was trying to walk across the highway when Ms. Balint's northbound 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue hit him and then continued north about 2 a.m. Sunday.
Mr. Walker was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alcohol is considered a factor in the crash.
A 2010 Bellefontaine High School graduate, Walker was a member of the school's swimming, track and cross country teams.
BHS head cross country coach Ben Davis said the team was in need of a fifth runner during the 2009 season to qualify for the regional meet and Walker, then a senior, stepped up to "really solidify that spot."
"He (Walker) brought a lot of passion and energy to everything he did," Coach Davis noted, adding, "he was very eager to please and contribute."
Arrangements are pending at Jennings Farley Funeral Home, West Liberty.
