A county vehicle is out of commission after its catalytic converter was stolen sometime overnight Wednesday.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department learned in a report taken from the office of the Logan County Commissioners about 9:22 a.m. Thursday that suspect(s) had crawled beneath the parked vehicle at Logan County Board of Elections office, 225 S. Main St., and cut out the part.
The vehicle was initially taken to Anderson’s Ford to be looked at. Mechanics there noticed the missing catalytic converter and contacted the commissioner’s office.
It’s not uncommon for catalytic converters to be targets of thieves, who will sell the part or scrap the metal for cash, officials report.
