West Liberty-Salem school board members accepted a quartet of resignations Tuesday at a regular meeting from four staff members with a combined 135 years of service in the district.
Resignations for the purpose of retirement were accepted from Mona Detrick, head custodian; Ann Thornburg, elementary physical education; Lynette Zeller, high school special education; and Kevin Haney, middle/high school industrial arts.
Mr. Haney has worked at WL-Salem for 30 years. Mrs. Detrick, Mrs. Zeller and Mrs. Thornburg each has worked 35 years at WL-Salem. Mrs. Detrick’s resignation is effective July 1. The other three are effective May 31.
Retirements of longtime staff members are factored into the district’s five-year financial forecast, Treasurer Steve Godwin said. In his report, Mr. Godwin said the district’s most recent income tax collections were about $386,000 — up about 1 percent from the same collection a year ago. In order to meet his income tax projections for the year, the district would have to bring in about $28,000 more in its last quarter collection.
