Defendant faces predator tag

A Bellefontaine man accused of raping a child under the age of five could be labeled a sexually violent predator if he is convicted of the charges outlined in a four-count indictment.

Detectives with the Bellefontaine Police Department began investigating Matthew S. Haley II, 24, of Bellefontaine, after a Dec. 23 complaint.

A Logan County grand jury this week handed up an indictment charging him with two counts of first-degree felony rape, two counts of third-degree felony gross sexual imposition.

Other indictments named:

• Matthew Cheadle, 31, at large: burglary, a second-degree felony;

• Jarrid Kimble, 31, of 11444 Township Road 25, Lakeview: theft and forgery, fifth-degree felonies;

• Charles Stevens, 30, of 14250 State Route 235, Lakeview: two counts of theft and 18 counts of forgery, fifth-degree felonies;

• Justin Crawford, 26, of 1040 Heritage Court: four counts of burglary and two counts of theft, third-degree felonies;

• Richard Cody Dierkeson Jr., 20, of 809 Heritage Court, Apt. 36: four counts of burglary and two counts of theft, third-degree felonies;

• Michael Beck, 25, of 621 Cooper Ave.: burglary, a third-degree felony; and breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony;

• Kathleen Powell, 53, of Marysville: operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, a fourth-degree felony;

• Philip Hoberty, 29, of 11351 Kiowa Path, Lakeview: domestic violence, a third-degree felony;

• Doug Summers, 18, of 224 Highland St., West Mansfield: burglary, a third-degree felony; safecracking, a fourth-degree felony; and grand theft, a third-degree felony;

• Kodi Smotherman, 21, of 106 N. Main St., West Mansfield: burglary, a third-degree felony; safecracking, a fourth-degree felony; and grand theft, a third-degree felony;

• Raymond Joseph, 35, of 317 N. Elm St.: two counts of trafficking in drugs and a single count of possession of drugs, fifth-degree felonies; trafficking in drugs and possession of drugs, fourth-degree felonies; tampering with evidence and intimidation of a witness, third-degree felonies; and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, a first-degree felony;

• Zane Grandi, 24, of 7364 Waterbury Road, Russells Point: trafficking in drugs, fifth-degree felony; and possession of drugs, a third-degree felony;

• Alika Thomas, 25, of 7364 Waterbury Road, Russells Point: possession of drugs, a third-degree felony;

• Billie Jean Carter, 23, of 2166 County Road 29: failure to comply with an order or signal of a peace officer, a third-degree felony;

• Zachary Bates, 24, at large: felonious assault, a second-degree felony; and criminal damaging, a second-degree misdemeanor;

• Stephanie Wilson, 27, of 1014 Heritage Court: possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony;

• Monte Jeaneret, 20, of 533 Fairview Ave., Russells Point: felonious assault, a second-degree felony;

• Jill McConnell, 32, of 1046 Heritage Court: possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony;

• Akhir J. Burham, 37, of 500 Gunntown Road, Apt. 8: having weapons under disability, a third-degree felony; carrying a concealed weapon, a fourth-degree felony; and possession of drugs, a second-degree felony; and

• Patricia Davis, 39, of 3569 W. State Route 274, Huntsville: domestic violence, third-degree felony; and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, a fourth-degree felony.
