locosheriff-star

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff's Office responded about 8:41 a.m. Sunday to a single vehicle fatal crash that claimed the life of a rural Rushsylvania teen.

Deputies report Brandon Scott Dilts, 19, was traveling westbound in the 3000 block of east State Route 274  in a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu when the vehicle went off the left side of the road and struck a fence post. The vehicle then traveled across a ditch, went airborne and struck a tree.

Mr. Dilts was pronounced dead at the scene by members of the Logan County Coroner's Office.

Preliminary reports indicate excessive speed may have been a factor in the crash, and deputies are awaiting lab results to determine if alcohol also played a role in the incident.

Rushcreek Fire and EMS assisted at the scene.

Damage to the vehicle was heavy.

Investigation continues.

It is the first fatality of the year in Logan County, officials report.
