Mayor Robin Reames offered her first State of the Village address and announced the demolition of a village landmark during the Russells Point Village Council meeting Tuesday.
Of her first year in office, Mayor Reames said she appreciated every staff member and council member for their willingness to share their knowledge with her as she became “acclimated to the processes of the village. The entire address appears below.
“You are truly dedicated to the best interest of the village and I am very grateful to you for that.”
Village officials took action on a dilapidated structure at the corner of Main Street and Wilgus Drive after it was declared a safety emergency and demolished at the village’s expense. The village will seek reimbursement of the cost from the property owner either by restitution or assessment to the property taxes.
The structure once housed White Cottage grocery, a soda bar, ice house, restaurant and ceramic shop, among other businesses over several decades.
In other matters, council approved the setting of a spending limit of no more than $5,000 for purchase orders without council approval, with some exceptions, such as annual blanket purchase orders, debt payments and emergencies. At the request of the council, the mayor will invite a representative of DP&L Energy to address them concerning the Affinity energy savings program.
The Parks and Recreation Board reported on the revival of the Leppich Ball Park and initial steps, including adding gravel to the existing driveway. The next parks and recreation board meeting is at 6 p.m. Feb. 18.
The Rules and Ordinance Committee meets at 7 p.m. Jan. 28, and the next council meeting is at 7 p.m. Feb. 4. For more village information, visit www.russellspoint-oh.gov
