Area students advance to Logan County Spelling Bee

The Logan County Educational Service Center announces that the Logan County Spelling Bee is slated for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Indian Lake Middle School, featuring the first- and second-place winners from each school district’s spelling bee.

Bellefontaine City Schools student Kimmie Elliott received first place at her school spelling bee, and Alex Taylor received second place. At Benjamin Logan, Logan Phillips won the school spelling bee and Taylor Keene finished second.

Indian Lake Schools student Terrin Bok won his school spelling bee and Seth Shields received second place.

Riverside Local Schools results will be announced after their district spelling bee Tuesday.

The four first place winners, Kimmie Elliott, Logan Phillips, Terrin Bok and the Riverside champion will participate in the semifinal round, which involves a 50-word online test. Test results will be available via spellingbee.com on Feb. 6.

The highest scoring school champions will qualify for participation in the 2013 Scripps College of Communication Regional Spelling Bee March 16. The champion of that contest will represent the area at the 2013 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
