Five transported following rear-end collision

Five people were sent to Mary Rutan Hospital with injuries after a two-vehicle crash about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday on northbound U.S. Route 68 near State Route 508.

Carolyn A. Upton, 65, of 608 Saxon Drive, was northbound on U.S. 68 when she rear-ended a northbound vehicle waiting to turn left on S.R. 508 operated by Jason Ritzma, 18, of 224 Ellis St., DeGraff.

Mrs. Upton was transported by Robinaugh EMS with non-incapacitating injuries.

Mr. Ritzma was transported by Macochee Joint Ambulance District with possible injuries. Three passengers in the Ritzma auto also were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Macochee EMS transported Brande L. Barger, 39, same address, DeGraff, and four-month-old Jaden Ritzma. Haylee Ritzma, 17, same address, was transported by Robinaugh for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries.

The Ritzma car sustained functional damage.

Mrs. Upton’s vehicle was heavily damaged. She was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance.
