Volunteers needed for Reading Buddy program

RSVP-lead-with-experience

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program seeks volunteers to be “reading buddies” for children ages 3-5 in the local Kids Learning Place and Head Start centers.

Reading buddies instill a love of reading in children. Research shows that only 53 percent of children ages 3 to 5 are read to by family members, and most teachers do not have even five minutes a day to read individually with students in class.

The program requires a minimum commitment of one hour per month. Prior experience is helpful, but not necessary. Training is provided.

Volunteers must be willing to submit to a background check and a physical, which are provided free of charge.

While RSVP is geared for ages 55 and older, reading buddies volunteers can be anyone age 18 or older.

To sign up, call the local RSVP Logan County office and talk with Greg Morrow at 292-3034 or e-mail him at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
